The Friends Group

                        P   The Friends Group   P

The  Friends Group is for students in 4th grade at East Woods who are interested in making new friends, developing their friendship skills, or would just like to get together with other students.  The Friends Group will meet once a week, for about 6-8 weeks, during the student's lunch and
recess period.  The goal of the Friends Group is to provide the students with situations and activities, which are a part of the student's daily life in developing friends and friendships, along with providing students the opportunity to learn ways of coping with the normal developmental concerns that they face each day in the areas of making and keeping friends.

The Friends Group is offered twice a year, with the first round usually starting in October, and the second round starting around the beginning of January.  The sign-up periods are announced each morning for a week on the morning announcements at East Woods.  Students are instructed to pick up a permission slip from their homeroom teacher or the Main Office, take the permission slip home to be signed, and then return it to their homeroom teacher.  Once the students return their permission slips, groups will be formed by the School Counselor during the next week.  Students will then receive a group invitation stating the day and time of their group.  Students will also receive weekly reminders, via their homeroom teacher's mailbox, to help them remember each week about the group meeting.
